Snowmen and pumpkins

We had our first snowfall in October! I’m so nervous about winter here! Everyone says last year they got four feet of snow at once and were snowed in. And apparently kids only had school two days in all of January. Crazy!
This was the second snowfall in October but this time it actually stuck for a few hours. Thomas took Brooklyn out to build a snowman.

Afterwards I had hot chocolate ready for them.

Then they carved pumpkins. This was the first year Brooklyn was able to really carve and clean out the pumpkin guts. I always let Thomas help with that. I just don’t like getting messy nor do I have the patience for carving. I provided the drinks and the Halloween ambience music and took pictures.

Later in the day it was Mommy/Brooky time so we went to the library lego time and then made pumpkin spice bread together.

Lincoln City Kite Festival

I’ve always wanted to go to a kite festival. So when I saw that there was one about four hours away I decided to book an Airbnb for us to go see it for a short weekend.
It took about four hours to drive to Lincoln city. It’s a beautiful drive to the coast.
Our hotel was fun because it had beach access and a swimming pool and hot tub and fire pits you could purchase Smore‘s kit’s to roast marshmallows. They also had a thing where each morning they had three wooden mermaid figurines hidden around the property and guests could try to find them to win a mermaid T-shirt or 10% off their next stay.

When we got there early Saturday evening Thomas took Brooklyn to the pool and I took Wells out to the beach where we went on a nice long walk and he slept in the Ergo.

That evening we found a cute little Mexican restaurant to eat at. After dinner Brooklyn and I got s’mores kit and roasted marshmallows around one of the outdoor fire pits.

The next morning we headed to the kite festival. It was so amazing and better than I even expected. The Kite flyers fly the kites to music. It’s  such an art and looks almost like dancing. There was one group of women who can’t even practice together but were able to perform together in perfect synchrony. There’s one person in a group of kite flyers who will yell out the commands then the rest of the group follows.
The festival had lots of activities for kids including a kite making station, facepainting, and a kids kite parade that Brooklyn participated in.  They gave each kid an autograph book and if you got 16 of the kite artists signatures then you got a free kite and some free sunglasses. The weather was windy and sunny so just perfect. We definitely want to go back next year and make this a yearly tradition.

They had something called “the running of the bolls” where they attach a parachute type thing to you and you race other people a short distance. Brooklynsnd Thomas tried it out.

The kites the kids made actually fly really well!

Blue and Gold Day

For homecoming week the high school lets the middle school and elementary students come for part of their homecoming assembly. I am at Brooklyn’s class there at the assembly to take some pictures for the yearbook.

Fall Festival

A church in Bend had a free fall festival that we went to this weekend. They had bounce houses, carnival games, hot chocolate, and a pie walk. Thomas won the pie walk so we got a free Costco pumpkin pie! That night we turned the fireplace on, had football going on the TV, and ate pumpkin pie and it just felt so cozy and fall like.
Brooklyn’s friend Kaylee was there so she had a good time bouncing on the bounce houses with her and her brother. I won the ring over the bottle game so won two bottled cokes which Thomas was excited about. We also bought a couple pumpkins there.
I love all the fall festival these that come with the cooler weather.
