Family Reunion Day 1 and 2

This past week was the Giles Family Reunion in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.  Thomas' parents planned the trip and used their points they get for their timeshare so we could all stay at the same resort in Steamboat. There were about 30 of us all together.
Thomas and I headed to Ogden, UT to meet some others at a hotel for the night because it was about the half way point.  We didn't leave until 10pm Monday night after Thomas got off work and arrived around 2:30am.  We slept a bit and then headed out that morning around 9am.
We arrived in Steamboat around 2pm and pretty much headed straight to the pool to play with the neices and nephews who were there while awaiting the arrival of the others.
L to R Adam, Katie, Amanda, Savannah
Adam was the shark and the girls were the mermaids.

Playing in the pool is so much more fun as a kid.  We had fun throwing around a ball and playing keep away and giving piggy back rides around the pool.
Once everyone arrived we were ready for pizza outside in a shady picnic area.  After dinner Thomas and I scouted out a route on our bikes for the following morning's 5K that we were in charge of planning. The night ended with a few games of Skip-bo before we headed for bed.
The next morning we were up bright and early for the family 5K.  There was a perfect path right across from our condos that went along the river.  Thomas and I took off quickly to get to the turn around point before everybody else. We maintained about a 7:30 pace.  At the turn around point we cheered and directed everybody else back to the start where Aunt Karla and Grandma G were waiting with the stopwatch.

That night we handed out medals for the overall finisher: Thomas' Dad and all the kids got awards.  We were really surprised how enjoyable the 5K was for everybody either walking or running.  Once everybody had made it to the turn around point Thomas and I ran, walked, skipped, and piggy backed with niece Savannah and little cousin Amanda.

After the 5K Thomas and I decided we still had enough energy in us to go mountain biking.  The concierge let us know how to get to a nearby trail and we headed out.  This was probably my most favorite trail that we have mountain biked since getting our bikes.  It was so green and beautiful up in the mountains and it was the perfect difficulty level and variation of terrain.  We biked along streams, a river, wildflowers, trees, etc.  It was beautiful.

Back at the condo we laid out by the pool a bit to cool down.

On the way back from the pool were given tickets to the gondola up the mountain by Bob and Karla (uncle and aunt).  We were planning on taking out bikes up, but learned you had to pay extra for a bike pass.  So we just went up without out bikes and enjoyed the scenery and then went on a little hike at the top.

After running, biking, swimming, and hiking we were hungry for dinner that night and it did not disappoint. Aunt Karla planned all the food for the trip and even had themed nights.  Wednesday night was Mexican night.  We had nachos with all of the fixings and peach cobbler and homemade ice cream.  The activity that night was a pinata.  The kids LOVED all the candy and had a blast breaking it open.

To be continued...
