This weeks was the first time I felt the baby kick! The first time I felt it was one night when I was home alone laying on the couch watching America's Next Top Model on Hulu. I thought it was a kick but wasn't sure and then it happened again and I had my hand on my stomach and when I felt it again I knew it was. It made me smile and get a little teary eyed.
This past weekend we went up to McCall and stayed in a cabin with some friends and as we were laying on the couch I felt it again and had Thomas put his hand on my stomach. I wasn't sure if he'd be able to feel it but I wouldn't even say anything and he would let me know when he would feel it. He felt two little kicks. To me they feel kind of like little muscle twitches. It's amazing that the baby is still so little but it's kicks can be felt.
At our last appointment (17 weeks) it's heartrate was 150bpm and everything was good. I have been having regular headaches lately but thought it was just from teaching a classroom of first graders. The doctor said it's pretty common from about 12 weeks-20 weeks for women to get headaches. The naseau is A LOT better and just hits for a little usually in the morning or at night but I haven't thrown up in 2 weeks :) Thank goodness!
We are getting so excited to find out the gender. I really have no feeling of the gender one way or another. Our friends Lyndsey and Dan who we went to McCall with this weekend are due 2 weeks before us and it's been so fun to be experiencing these things together and to be able to share our excitment.

Christmas Pictures
Over Thanksgiving break my little sister Bea took some beautiful family pictures for Thomas and I.
The Announcement
I had been looking forward to going home for Thankgsiving for seriously three months. Being sick and pregnant just made me want to be around loved ones and home. Luckily, Thomas had a whole week off and so did I!
I had put a hold on The Hunger Games book on CD back in June or something at the library and we got it just in time for our trip. I had already read the books but Thomas hadn't and we both really enjoyed listening to it on our trip.
It was so exciting being able to tell everyone that we are expecting. First we stopped at Thomas' grandma's house in Grandview, WA. We brought out little rattle cupcakes and gave them to her and she didn't really get what they were. Thomas asked her if she knew what they were and she said "A lollipop?" Haha. When he said they were a baby rattles cause I was pregnant she said "Oh!" and looked at me and asked "Did you sleep on the wrong side of the bed?" I laughed and said that no Thomas had. The she asked us "Don't you kids know the economy's bad right now? I thought you two were the smart ones." We just laughed but when we left we kind of felt deflated and then were a little scared to tell anyone else.
But... we got THE BEST reaction from my little sister Bea. We got to my parents house a bit before she got back from the grocery store so my mom had time to get her camera out to video her reaction. She came into the dining room and looked at my mom funny cause she had her camera out and I said "Hey Bea! I made you some cupcakes." She was like "I don't trust you." Haha I guess she thought I put something nasty in them. But then she looks at the cupcakes and asks "Are you pregnant!?" And when I say yes she yells and claps and hugs me. Alex was upstairs too and in the video you can hear him screaming and clapping too :)
When my dad got home from work we did the same thing for him and he was excited for us.
On Sunday we went and told Thomas' brother's family and his son ended up telling Thomas' mom before we could so when we told her there wasn't any surprise. His dad on the other hand was surprised when we showed him pics of our new apartment and the baby's room had a sign that said Baby's Room and the ultrasound picture. His first response was "Oh you already have a baby's room ready" but didn't really get it that we were pregnant till one of us said "Ya, the baby will be here in May." Haha
For the rest of our families we sent the following letter in the mail:
Next time we are announcing a baby's arrival we have decided to just go the easy route and call everybody so that everybody get's the news the same day :) It was a bit stressful waiting for everybody to find out and hoping they didn't find out from somebody else. My poor sister in law had to find out through facebook cause they never got there letter in the mail because they were moving. Oops. Live and learn though.

More First Grade Funnies
These funnies are both from little Zeke:
We were at reading center and one of the students said "My mom told me you are going to have a baby." I said that I was and Zeke replied "Ya I know you are cause your stomach used to be like this (and he sucks in his stomach)". Haha at least I know my stomach used to be flat :)
Zeke came up to me the other day with a really concerned tone and said "Teacher, Jennifer is just fillyfarting around!" I couldn't help but laugh. Fillyfarting??!! Haha

First Grade Funnies
Laurence did come back to school with a completely shaved head. I overheard a little girl next to him say "Your hair looks kinda weird." I don't think he'll be cutting his hair again. Although I did catch him playing with two pairs of scissors under his desk the other day.
One little boy in my class is just so darn adorable, Zeke Anytime there is trash to be picked up or we need to take out the recycling he is all over it. He told me the other day "Teacher, I like to help."
I overheard him say to the other students at his table "Guys, did you know that at your wedding you have to kiss in front of EVERYBODY!? That is the part I don't want to do!" I chuckled and he heard me and smiled and said "I don't!"
Zeke appears to be very concerned about his future because on Monday we had a wild kitten inside the school and they announced over the intercom that if any students found it they shouldn't pet it because it might have some diseases and it's not used to being touched. He called out to me in a very concerned voice "Teacher! I'm scared! I don't want to die! I wanted to live to be a grandpa."
We were at calendar and each week the All About Me student gets to present a little poster about themselves and then the other students can ask five questions or comment. Andy had put on his poster that his favorite food was ham. One little girl's question was what his favorite type of ham was. His response was "turkey ham" and the little girl was all enthusiastic "Mmmmm! I love turkey ham." Can't say I've every tried turkey ham (I think he meant his favorite food was meat and he calls all meat ham). Then another bright little first grader commented "Ham comes from a pig's butt cheeks!". Haha I couldn't help but laugh.
Love those little funny first graders.

First grade long term sub job
I started my long term sub job a little earlier than expected. The teacher I am subbing for went to her appointment and was already dilated to a four and had big time swelling so the doctor wanted her to be off her feet.
The first grade class I will be in for the next couple months is a great group of kids and they crack me up. That age is so lovable and they will just tell you that they like you and they want to hold your hand and really make you feel loved.
On my first day the students were working on writing three things that they like about the "All About Me" student for that week. Once they wrote their three sentences they would come up to me and read them to me and I would help them make any corrections. I was helping one student and I hear "Laurence is cutting his hair!" I look up and little blondie boy has scissors frozen above his head and had taken two big chunks out of his hair. My first reaction was "Why did you do that!?" He didn't really reply and so I just went over and whispered to him that he'd need to stay in at recess so we could call his parents. One little girl was like "My mom would be pissed!" (I can't believe a first grader knows that word, but it kind of made me laugh inside). So at recess I took him down to the office to get his parents phone number and the principal was in there just getting off the phone. I guess they have had problems with this little one before so the principal said she would call. She put the phone on speaker and dad answered and she let him know that Laurence had decided to take a couple chunks out of his hair and she didn't want him to be surprised when he got off the bus. Dad handled it very well and just said "Well I guess he'll be pretty embarrassed when he comes to school with a bald head on Monday." I don't think this little guy will choose to cut his hair again. As we were walking back to class I said in my most compassionate voice "Looks like you'll have to find some warm hats to wear this winter to keep your head warm." We'll see how things look on Monday.
