Thomas participated in the YMCA's spring sprint triathlon last year and convinced me to do it this year. I did the short course and he did the long course.
This is a great beginning triathlon because you do the swim the day before in an indoor pool. To train for the swim Thomas and I would take Brooklyn to the YMCA once a week for a month and while one of us swam the other played with Brooklyn.
The next day (Saturday) you start the bike portion of the race according to your swim time. I made some good time on the bike even though I was on a mountain bike compared to a road bike (but I've got to admit most participants in the short course were kids ha).
My distances were a 250 yard swim, 5 mile bike, and 1 mile run. Afterwards I couldn't really imagine doing more than that but I'm intrigued and might have to try sometime.
The long course was after the short course so Brooklyn and I got to cheer on Thomas while I recovered.
Thomas improved a ton from his last years time. I'm continually impressed by his athletic abilities.
