Our Boise's Babies and Tots playgroup went on a field trip to one of the fire stations in town. Brooklyn loves pointing out fire trucks as we are driving so she was excited when I told her where we were going.
The first part of the tour was a fireman talking to us a bit about what they do and then him putting on all of his gear. First he pulled on his boots, pants, and coat. As soon as he put the helmet and oxygen mask over his face Brooklyn started SCREAMING. She was clinging on to me for dear life as she screamed. The other kids seemed to be fine except for Brooklyn's screaming scared a few of them. The fireman let us know that the reason they like to show kids them dressed in their gear is because so many kids get freaked out and run and hide in emergencies. I was considering leaving because Brooklyn continued to cry and cling onto me for about 20 minutes but I didn't want her to think that there really was something to be scared of. After awhile she calmed down and enjoyed standing on the firetruck and getting her fireman's hat, coloring book. and tattoo.
