San Clemente Trip

In April we took a quick little trip to San Clemente so that Brooklyn could experience the beach for the first time.
We found the cutest little place to stay just a couple miles from the beach using Airbnb. It was about a nine hour drive and it went super smooth.  We jammed out to some Kidz Bop, listened to podcasts, and chatted and it seemed to pass the time fairly quickly. This was our first experience using Airbnb and it couldn't have gone better! Our host was so welcoming and even let us use their boogie board and beach chairs and was so accommodating and helpful.

Thomas and I slept in the little loft area and Brooklyn slept in the day bed downstairs.

When we first arrived we stopped at a little Mexican restaurant and then checked out the beach and the pier.  We loved that all the beaches had swing sets and sometimes full playground sets.

First time seeing the ocean!

We were able to experience a couple different beach locations throughout our stay.  It was in the 60's so just getting our feet wet in the water was fine.  Thomas' favorite activity was building sand castles, Brooklyn's was being pushed on the swing, and mine was just listening to and watching the waves.

One day the lifeguards made an announcement over the intercom asking everyone to get in the water because there was something washing ashore.  It turned out to be whale intestines! Further down the beach the body of the whale washed ashore. We walked down the beach trail to try and see the whale body but didn't make it that far.  On our last morning I was able to run a few miles along the beach path and it was beautiful running next to the ocean.

Another day it was pretty windy, especially next to the water, so we spent our time hiking and at some nearby parks.  The trail access started at the top of a big hill overlooking the ocean with a park at the trailhead.  I went a bit further than Thomas and Brooklyn who went to play at the park.  I accidentally underestimated how far I would be going and probably hiked about 6 miles which was a lot longer than I meant to!

This one was a trail with an old car that had crashed years and years ago. It was so steep I can't imagine a car even attempting to go down!

We liked watching the surfers

Every night we got ice cream from Baskin Robbins before heading back to our place.  I had forgotten how yummy some of their flavors are!
