Before leaving Texas we had a small family birthday party for Brooklyn. We put her in her Elmo outfit that I bought off of Etsy for her invites and parties. Thomas and I made Cookie Monster cupcakes and we grilled hot dogs.
I can't even watch the video of Brooklyn blowing out her candle from last year because instead of blowing the candle out she grabbed for the flame and burnt her finger! Breaks my heart. This year she started crying when we brought out the cupcake and started singing "Happy Birthday". I don't know if she remembers the previous experience or if she just didn't like the attention. They days between her family party and her actual birthday Thomas and I would try singing "Happy Birthday" to her and each time she would tell us "NO!".
Brooklyn's favorite gift from the family party was the Cabbage Patch doll her Aunt Bea got her. She has been taking it everywhere with her since receiving it and even sleeping with her.
It was nice having a low key party with family. Brooklyn LOVES her cousins so I know the best part for her was running around with them.
Zipporah (the one holding Brooklyn is actually my cousin. She was SO good with Brooklyn. I wish she lived closer to us so I had her as a babysitter.)
Brooklyn wanted to open any packaging to her gifts right then so she could play with it. Especially the Cabbage Patch Doll.
Emmett was SO excited watching the present opening. He was literally jumping in the air from excitement.
Alex was pretty excited about the Cabbage Patch Doll too. Him and Emmett helped pick it out.
The Mrs. Potato Head was a hit too.
Thomas and I were proud of our cupcake making abilities. With some help from Pinterest we made and decorated the Cookie Monster cupcakes.
Brooklyn was not happy about all the attention from singing "Happy Birthday".
Emmett was excited, but not Brooklyn. Maybe next year?
