Saturday morning the sun woke Thomas and I up bright and early around 7pm. So we got up and went for a run. Mike had told us about this path that goes on for miles and has quite a bit of runners and bikers so it’s safe. The path was called Soos Trail and it was only .5 miles from Ashley and Mike’s place. It was an absolutely beautiful morning, couldn’t have asked for better temperatures. The path went through a very foresty area and was pretty flat with some ups and downs. Thomas went with me the first 3 miles and then I went on for one more and came back for him. It’s so much fun running a new course and having someone to run with.
That afternoon we drove into Seattle and went to Pike’s Place Market. This was Thomas’ first time at Pike’s Place Market. We were super excited to find “Bubble Tea” and mango flavored too. We love mango! And we were both introduced to bubble tea on our missions. It is basically like a fruit smoothie with these gelatin like things that you suck up in a big ol’ straw. So yummy!
After Pike’s Place we headed to the Pacific Science Center. My parents got us all year memberships for Christmas. We didn’t have too much time til’ Roller derby but we did get to go to a laser show with music by The Beatles. We are planning on going back sometime again this month so we can see some more of the science center.

I was trying to do a mean face, no success. |
The roller derby was soooooooooo awesome! It was at the Key Arena where they have a lot of sports events like the WNBA Seattle Storm games. There were about 7,000 spectators, a record. We saw some drag queens dressed as nuns called “the sisters of perpetual indulgence”; one of them was wearing these black sparkly platform shoes that were about 7 inches high. And there were men as cheerleaders wearing tutus. So funny! It was the championship so there were two matches. Derby Liberation Front vs. Throttle Rockets and Sockit Wenches v Grave Danger
It was really interesting that although it’s a rough and tumble game the girls from each team are really nice to each other. After the game they would all give each other hugs and congratulate each other. If someone was hurt they would all stop where they were on the track and take a knee out of respect.
There were girls of all different shapes and sizes, and they all wore skimpy little skirts or booty shorts. One of the best girls was probably about 250 pounds and she was super fast and just could plow through the pack to score.

This is how the game works in a jist. There are 5 people from each team on the track at a time. There are 3 blockers, 1 pacer, and 1 jammer. The jammer is the one who scores points by trying to pass the other team. For each person on the other team they pass they get one point. The blockers are the ones trying to not let the jammer from the other team get past them by pushing them around with their bodies. The pacer stays at the front of the pack to keep the pace.
Halftime show was awesome. First, was a “band” that was called and they did all air guitar and drums, super fun to watch. Then there was an awesome drum line made up of teenagers, they were really good.
They all had really fun names such as:
Anya Heels
Claranoia
Clobberin Mame
Ima Handful
I'd totally recommend going to a roller derby game. Such a blast!
